Scaling & Root Planing
Scaling and root planing are two-part processes that eliminate bacteria and encourage proper gum reattachment. Scaling involves removing harmful plaque from above and below the gumline, while root planing smooths out the tooth roots to make it harder for bacteria to reattach in the future. It also allows the gums to begin reattaching to the teeth so that gum pockets no longer exist.
Antibiotic Therapy
Often, after scaling and root planing are completed, our team applies antibiotic therapy to the gum pockets. This application spreads deep within the soft oral tissues to eradicate bacteria that might have been missed with regular dental instruments. After several weeks, the medicine finishes dispersing, allowing your gum health to improve drastically.
